These are three Princeton University students after the Freshman, Sophomore snowball fight in 1893. Even though they were in intense pain and severely hurt they continued to push on, fighting for something they believed in… their respective college classes. As they were treated medically they probably thought of their foolishness and regretted their decision, but it was too late, the damage was done.
As people, we often place our trust in temporal things that are fleeting in time and do not have much importance. We pursue, money, riches, fame, alcohol, and sex, among other acts, hoping it will make us happy – hoping it will fill a void. This is a vain attempt that does not bring long term happiness.
God’s love for us is immense (John 3:16) – we cannot measure it. He gave us this life, with free will, to live out in whatever manor we decide, but His desire is for us to know Him. Even though we do foolish things, as the Princeton students did, God still pursues us. Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
For those that do not have a personal relationship with God: If you are honest with yourself you know there is a God in Heaven and you know that you have sinned against Him. You know this because of your conscience. The definition of conscience is “with knowledge.” – you have knowledge of right and wrong. You have sinned against the Holy God. He, who is perfect, holy, righteous, loving and just, has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice for your foolish acts – your sin. You have broken His holy standard and there is a penalty to pay. Romans 6:23 clearly states this penalty, “For the payment of sin is death.” Death is separation from God in hell.
“The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” Don’t wait until the damage is done and it is too late, as the Princeton students did with their behavior. Turn towards God and have real peace in your life. The Creator of the universe is waiting for you.
